“I believe speaking Spanish opens many doors in my professional career. I had a Spanish teacher in seventh grade (middle school) in Philadelphia, at a school run by Quakers, who gave refuge to Central American migrants fleeing from the Contras, and through that, they exposed us to very different realities. At 14, I had the revelation that there are many ways to understand the world, and in times of extreme division across the globe, the more people communicate with each other, the more empathetic they will become.”
