“What I’d like people to take away from the documentary is that this could happen to anyone—the indoctrination in this way. If your reality is completely shaped by a doctrine, breaking free from it is very difficult. What these survivors did was incredibly brave; they went against everything they knew to make sure this wouldn’t happen again. We came to understand this as we got to know them and learned about the history of the Church of the Apostles”.
